Birch Society Warns of Global Gun Grab

The editor of the John Birch Society's magazine warned Montanans that the United Nations wants to eradicate citizens' right to own firearms. William Norman Grigg of The New American said any attempt to disarm Americans is a measure to turn citizens into subjects.

In April, Grigg told Montanans in five communities that the United Nations seeks to create for itself a "global monopoly on the use of force." To accomplish this, Grigg said that all gun control leads back to the UN, and it wants to take away any weapons that could be used to take power back from the government.

Grigg claimed the real threat to Americans was not necessarily the UN itself, but the UN subverting America's government. He likened the FBI to the Gestapo of Nazi Germany. He also blamed the media for promoting an anti-gun message. Grigg said the media engages in a "pornography of grief" whenever a child is hurt in a crime involving a gun, but it doesn't do anything to stop partial birth abortions.

Grigg's presentations were publicized by the Militia of Montana, Montana Shooting Sports Association and Citizens to Preserve the Second Amendment. This was the second staff person from The New American to tour Montana recently. William Jasper toured the state in September 2001 and also spoke on the supposed dangers of the UN.
