Cathy Billie Receives Walt Brown Award

Cathy Billie of St. Ignatius was honored as the 1998 recipient of the Network's Walt Brown Award for Montana's outstanding human rights activist. The award was presented at the Network's annual conference, held in Great Falls on October 16 and 17.

Cathy is a founding member of the Flathead Reservation Human Rights Coalition, an affiliate group of the Network. She is a past president of the Network Board of Directors, and is currently serving on the Board. Over the years Cathy has been instrumental in fostering improved relations between tribal and non-tribal members on the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Reservation. She has also helped every year in organizing the culture fair held in Ronan and has assisted in establishing conflict resolution workshops in local schools. Cathy is well deserving of this award.
