Update on the Solomon FundThe Montana Human Rights Network sent a check for $2,721 to Kathleen Solomon of Spokane, Washington. Her husband, David Solomon, was murdered in an apparent hate crime on June 29 at the Gold Creek, Montana, rest area on Interstate 90. Murder suspect Douglas Zander saw the interracial couple and their youngest son at the rest area, and he told authorities he murdered Solomon because he was black. Zander's trial date is February 28. "No monetary reimbursement can alleviate the pain felt by Mrs. Solomon and her two sons, but we hope this helps demonstrate further the sadness felt by the many Montanans who contributed to the fund," said Paul Shively of the Montana Human Rights Network. "The events of this past summer weigh heavily in the hearts and minds of many people in this state. The donations show that most Montanans do not share the views of some racist citizens." Those who still want to make a contribution can send it to any Western Security Bank in Montana through December 1. |
